DAY OF CHILDREN
April 23 National Sovereignty and Child Day will be celebrated in Turkey with ceremonies. The 84th anniversary of Parliament's opening will also be celebrated. The first ceremony at Parliament will be held in front of Ataturk Monument at 09.00 a.m. Parliamentary General Assembly will convene with a special agenda at 02.00 p.m.

CANADA APPROVES ARMENIAN DRAFT
Canadian House of Commons adopted the decision which recognizes so-called Armenian genocide. In spite of objections of Canadian Foreign Minister, the decision was adopted with 153 votes against 68 votes. Ankara harshly condemned the decision. Foreign Ministry stated that the responsibility of the decision belonged to Canadian politicians.

BOMB ATTACK ON BUS CARRYING MILITARY PERSONNEL
A bomb placed under a bridge in Bahcelievler district of Istanbul, went off yesterday morning as a bus carrying military personnel was passing under the bridge. The blast did not cause any casualties. Besides the bus, two more vehicles were damaged. The bus was carrying 45 officers from their military lodgings to a military unit. Police cordoned off the scene of the explosion to gather all pieces of evidence. It was determined that a hand-made bomb was used in the attack. Istanbul State Security Court (DGM) Chief Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the attack.

ISTANBUL TO HOST 57TH CONGRESS OF WAN
The 57th congress of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) will be held in Istanbul between May 30 and June 2, 2004. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to make opening remarks of the congress. Owners or editors in chief of leading 1,400 newspapers in the world will attend the congress.

According to the report of the United Nations, there are 500 thousand children in Turkey who need protection. There are 23 thousand 872 children who are living or working at streets and their ages change between 7 and 11. 90 percent of children who are working is subjected to bad treatment.

''NO'' VOTES OF GREEK CYPRIOTS ARE HOPE OF DENKTAS
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas was very pleased with Russia's veto to Cyprus resolution in the United Nations Security Council which shadowed the expectations for an increase of ''yes'' votes of Greek Cypriot side. Denktas said regarding the rejection of resolution of the U.N. Security Council which guarantees Annan Plan, ''thanks Russia, it saved TRNC from disaster.''

OZKAYA: ''SUCH AN INTERVENTION IN JUDICIARY IS REGRETFUL''
Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Judge Eraslan Ozkaya has said that statements of some European parliamentarians about the decision of the Ankara State Security Court (DGM) in re-trial process of the former deputies of the Democracy Party (DEP) were regretful. ''Statements that could put pressure on the judiciary contradict judicial independence in a state of law. Such an intervention of a European parliamentarian in the Turkish judiciary is regretful,'' he stressed. Luigi Vinci, a member of the European Parliament, said that the decision of the Ankara DGM in re-trial process of the former deputies of the DEP was an insult to the European Union and the European Court of Human rights. Vinci said that the DGMs were biased because of their structure, and called on Turkish government and Turkish parliament to annul such a disgraceful decision.
MFA HARSHLY REACTS TO CANADA
After Canadian Federal Parliament approved a motion recognizing the so-called Armenian genocide, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has released a statement condemning the decision of the Canadian parliament harshly. ''Despite all our initiatives, the Canadian Federal Parliament has approved the motion by pursuing marginal views. We harshly condemn the decision of the Canadian Federal Parliament. Canadian parliamentarians failed to understand that such decisions based on prejudices stemming from the distorted historical information, could play havoc with social harmony by inciting hatred among people of different ethnical background,'' the statement added.

''YES'' IS LIKE DREAM IN GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE
Russia vetoed the Cyprus resolution which the United States and Britain have presented to the United Nations Security Council to calm down the concerns of Greek Cypriot communist AKEL party. AKEL wanted Greek Cypriots not to vote ''yes''. The second largest party of Greek Cypriots DISI claimed that Papadopoulos was behind the veto.

REACTION FROM PARLIAMENT TO TERROR OF NATIONALIST IDEALISTS
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Deputy Group Chairman Sadullah Ergin and Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Group Chairman Haluk Koc reacted harshly against the terror of nationalist idealists in Cyprus. They said that Turkish Cypriots should not be disturbed, adding that the age of dictating ideas by force ended a long time ago. Nationalist idealist, who went to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) from Turkey, threw stones to buildings of parties supporting Annan Plan and attacked those who supported a positive result in referendum.

STATE MINISTER BABACAN TO HOLD A SERIES OF MEETINGS IN UNITED STATES
Turkish State Minister Ali Babacan, who is currently in the United States to attend the spring term meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the meetings of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, will hold a series of meetings. Babacan will meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow, IMF First Deputy Managing Director Anne Krueger, economy ministers of Australia and Italy, U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell's assistant for economic affairs.

TURKISH PARLIAMENT TO CONVENE EXTRAORDINARILY
If both Turkish Cypriot and the Greek Cypriot sides vote ''yes'' in the referendums to be held on April 24, Turkish and Greek parliaments' approval will be required to put into practice the agreement envisaging foundation of the United Cyprus Republic till April 29. The Turkish parliament will convene extraordinarily on Monday to assess results of the referendums.

TURKISH BUSINESSMEN DUE TO GERMANY
The Union of Turkish Chambers and Commodity Exchanges will pay a visit to Germany with the participation of nearly 600 businessmen. During the visit, the delegation will attend inauguration of the Turkish-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will inaugurate the chamber.
