Supreme Court Of Appeals Chief Judge: Such An Intervention Of A European Parliamentarian Is Regretful

ANKARA - Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Judge Eraslan Ozkaya has said that statements of some European parliamentarians about the decision of the Ankara State Security Court (DGM) in re-trial process of the former deputies of the Democracy Party (DEP) were regretful.
Replying to questions of the A.A correspondent, Ozkaya said that criticisms about decisions of the judiciary were normal.
''However, statements that could put pressure on the judiciary contradict judicial independence in a state of law. In Europe, no one has the right to intervene in judiciary. Such an intervention of a European parliamentarian in the Turkish judiciary is regretful. If judiciary makes a mistake, it can correct it within its system. However, it is not a European politician to talk about it. Only Turkish supreme courts can intervene in decisions,'' he added.
Yesterday, Luigi Vinci, a member of the European Parliament, said that the decision of the Ankara DGM in re-trial process of the former deputies of the DEP was an insult to the European Union and the European Court of Human rights (ECHR). Vinci said that the DGMs were biased because of their structure, and called on Turkish government and Turkish parliament to annul such a disgraceful decision.
