LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat said on Thursday that Cyprus resolution which Russia vetoed in the United Nations Security Council was presented early to satisfy Greek Cypriot communist AKEL Party, and the decision was postponed with the veto.
Talat said that Security Council would re-convene synchronously with the foundation agreement's coming into force following referendums, and take the same decision.
Talat who spoke to A.A regarding Russia's veto on Cyprus resolution, said ''this issue would be brought onto agenda when foundation agreement came into force. They did this early to satisfy AKEL. But, Russia vetoed it and this issue is postponed. Security Council will re-convene synchronously with the foundation agreement's coming into force following referendums, and take the same decision. Thus, this veto is a postponement. Of course some changes can be made. This is a different issue. But the real date for this is April 29.''
Talat said Russia had taken this decision with the pressure of the side which voted ''no'' in Greek Cypriot side, adding that ''no'' approach was still dominant in Greek Cypriot side.
TRNC FOREIGN MINISTER DENKTAS: ''RUSSIA'S VETO IS BENEFICIAL FOR TURKISH CYPRIOT SIDE''
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas said on Thursday that prevention of the United Nations Security Council's Cyprus resolution by the veto of Russia was beneficial for Turkish Cypriot side.
Holding a press conference, Denktas said that the same resolution could be adopted under different conditions with the contribution of Turkish side in case of an agreement.
Denktas said that their attitude about the resolution could be evaluated according to the conditions of that time.
