National Defense Minister Gonul Meets With Defense Minister Hill Of Australia

ANKARA - Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul met with Defense Minister Robert M. Hill of Australia on Thursday.
Hill came to Turkey to attend several ceremonies and activities to be held in northwestern province of Canakkale and Gelibolu Peninsula between April 22 and 25, 2004 to mark the 89th anniversary of Canakkale Battles.
Stressing that the world had been face to face with several threats and difficulties, Hill added that Turkey and Australia had been co-operation with each other in fight against terrorism.
''During the Canakkale Battles, both Turkey and Australia experienced very saddening events and suffered heavy loss. However, as Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk stressed, it was the beginning of a friendship between Turkey and Australia,'' he said.
Gonul added that the bilateral relations between Turkey and Australia would be discussed at the meeting.
