OZTURK RESIGNS FROM CHP, SAYING 'DEMOCRACY IS LACKING'
Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul deputy Prof. Yasar Nuri Ozturk announced that he resigned from his party. Holding a press conference at Parliament yesterday, Ozturk said that unfortunately he had many disappointments in CHP. He added that he resigned from CHP because he did not agree with its view on secularism, religion and its integration with people and 'heavy democracy deficiency' in it.

TRIPLET BARGAINING
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan made bargaining with Dimitris Hristofyas, the secretary general of communist party AKEL and Speaker of the Greek Cypriot parliament. Papadopoulos was not included in the meeting. Greek Cypriots gained two of three assurances. Annan and Powell excluded Greek Cypriot side leader Papadopoulos who carried out ''no'' campaign for referendum and they made the bargaining with Hristofyas, the leader of AKEL, who plays the key role in referendum.

12 BRITISH REASONS TO CONVINCE GREEK CYPRIOTS
Britain, which is one of the guarantor countries of Cyprus, speeded up its propaganda activities. According to the information that Turkish intelligence branches received, Britain handed out booklets in Greek Cypriot side and listed 12 reasons to Greek Cypriots to vote ''yes'' in referendum.

BAYKAL NOT TO GO TO CYPRUS
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal, who is criticizing the government due to its Cyprus policy, did not consider the invitation made from the island and preferred four-day Brussels visit. Baykal has not visited Cyprus since the new process started in the island.

CHP WILL NOT VOTE FOR EU PACKAGE
Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal announced that they would not support new constitutional amendments which were the last package of the European Union (EU) adjustment process as it did not include the article on political immunity. Baykal said that they did not support a proposal which excludes political immunity, adding that those who excluded the proposal of the opposition should take into consideration the exclusion of votes of CHP as well.

CHP IS NOT ATATURK'S PARTY
Yasar Nuri Ozturk who resigned from Republican People's Party (CHP) by harshly criticizing CHP leader Deniz Baykal said that CHP was not Ataturk's party any more and added that it was impossible to make politics with CHP. CHP Istanbul deputy Ozturk who joined the party 19 months ago resigned yesterday by harshly accusing Baykal and party officials.

POWELL: DECISION SHALL BE ADOPTED BEFORE REFERENDUM
Washington administration presses for emerging the results of referendum ''yes'' in Cyprus. U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell wanted the decision to encourage both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots to be adopted in U.N. Security Council before the referendum.

CHILDREN AT CANKAYA PRESIDENTIAL PALACE
Guest children who attended the celebrations for International April 23 Children's Day visited President Ahmet Necdet Sezer under the leadership of Turkish Radio and Television Corp. (TRT) Director General Senol Demiroz. Sezer said that the children were the hope of humanity and he was pleased to host them in Turkey.

POSTPONEMENT IS NOT POSSIBLE
The United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro De Soto said that draft decision for Cyprus could be approved in Security Council today. Holding a press conference at Ledra Palace, De Soto said that they knew that especially Greek Cypriots had some concerns and added that the council would give the message to sides that the plan could be implemented. Noting that it was not possible to delay the referendum from now on, De Soto said that if the results became ''no'', it would mean that the current situation would continue.

COMPENSATION FOR TERROR VICTIMS
State will give compensation to victims of terrorism and fight against terrorism. State will pay 12.7 billion Turkish Liras (TL) to relatives of those who died and 18.4 billion TL to injured people. The damages will be determined according to the declaration of those who received the damage and according to the information in judicial, administrative and military offices.

EU PUTS PRESSURE ON GREEK CYPRIOTS TO VOTE ''YES''
The European Union (EU), the United Nations and the United States take action to make the results of referendum ''yes''. The European Parliament will convene today to stress that the alternative of Annan Plan was insolubility and to call Greek Cypriots to vote ''yes''. Political groups in European Parliament will press for a positive result to emerge in the referendum which will be held on Saturday.

WHY DON'T YOU COME TO TURKEY?
Toyota Motor Europe Chairman and CEO Shuhei Toyoda said that the current economic condition in Turkey was very positive and added that he was expecting the government to carry on the existing performance similarly. When asked the deficiency of Turkey in drawing direct investment, Toyoda said that they were making investments in Turkey but he could not understand why others did not make investments. He added that they were making invitation for more investment in Turkey.

NSC TO HOLD EXTRAORDINARY MEETING
National Security Council (NSC) which had convened three times on March 31, April 1 and 5, will hold an extraordinary meeting on April 26 for Cyprus issue. NSC which convenes once in two months decided to hold extraordinary meeting in its last meeting. NSC meeting will be held at 02.00 p.m. on Monday at Cankaya Presidential Palace under the chairmanship of President Ahmet Necdet Sezer. The attitude which will be followed regarding Cyprus issue will be determined in the meeting which will be held two days after the referendum in Cyprus.
