NEVSEHIR - Deputy Prime Minister and Economy and Trade Minister Dan Ioan Popescu of Romania has expressed his satisfaction with the recent development in the economic co-operation between Turkey and Romania.
Popescu, who is currently in Turkey to attend Turkey-Romania Joint Economic Commission meetings, paid a visit to Governor Alaattin Turhan of central province of Nevsehir.
Noting that 8 thousand 700 Turkish firms had been acting in Romania, Popescu said that those Turkish firms were the most important sign of close commercial relations between Turkey and Romania.
Pointing out that trade volume between Turkey and Romania increased to 1.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2003, Popescu said that they targeted the trade volume to exceed 2.5 billion U.S. dollars by the end of 2004.
Popescu added that the prime minister of Romania would pay a state visit to Turkey in the coming days.
Meanwhile, Turhan said that developing economic co-operation between the two countries had made a valuable contribution to efforts to further strengthen friendly relations between Turkish and Romanian peoples.
Later, Popescu visited historical places in Cappadocia.
Cappadocia region is one of the culture tourism centers in Turkey with a spectacular landscape of wind and water eroded volcanic tuff based soil.
There are thousands of natural, pyramid shaped rock formations and cave-like settlement places carved by humans since the early ages throughout the region.
