ANKARA - British Foreign Secretary David Miliband arrived in Turkish capital of Ankara on Tuesday.
Miliband told reporters at Esenboga Airport in Ankara that he was paying this visit to Turkey because he believed that there would be very important relations between Turkey and Britain in the coming years, indicating that the relations between the two countries were progressing on sound common values and interests.
Stating that he was looking forward to holding talks with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister & Chief EU Negotiator Ali Babacan, Miliband said that Turkey`s EU negotiation process would be discussed during his meetings on Wednesday. He underlined that Britain supported Turkey`s EU bid.
Miliband is the first foreign guest of Ankara after the presidential election and the formation of the new government.
Bilateral relations, EU process, Cyprus, Iraq as well as other regional and international matters are expected to be discussed during Miliband`s talks with Turkish authorities.
