LEFKOSA - Nobody had the right to bring back days of migration to Cyprus, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said on Saturday.
Denktas, who attended a meeting, said that he did not want people who had to migrate in the past to migrate today.
''I don't want to live similar days again. Nobody has the right to cause such developments,'' Denktas said.
Asking everybody not to deceive people, Denktas said, ''some people who own lands in some military zones say that soldiers will withdraw from these lands if (United Nations Secretary General Kofi) Annan's plan is put into practice and notes that he/she can sell these lands in return for high prices. I feel very sad to hear it.''
Denktas went on saying, ''TRNC is product of your efforts. Think of how TRNC is formed and how much you suffered since TRNC is formed. Think of those who migrated to the north of the island from the south of the island in 1975. And, remember that they left everything in the south and settled in the north. Now, can they take the risk of leaving everything behind and migrate again? I don't want to live similar days again. Nobody has the right to cause such developments.''
''Because, we gave you a state. And, if you don't know its value, you will vote ''yes'' to the Annan plan and lose your state. Then, they will give you tranquility for a few days under the flag of United Cyprus Republic,'' Denktas added.
U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan presented his final plan to the parties at the end of Cyprus negotiations held in Buergenstock, Switzerland on March 31.
This plan will be put to simultaneous referenda in TRNC and Greek Cypriot side on April 24.
