LEFKOSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said on Friday that Turkish Cypriot people should trust in him and should say 'no' to the U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan on Cyprus.
Denktas who returned from Turkey to TRNC told reporters that the Annan plan established a supreme office under Greek Cypriot domination and the plan foresaw two provinces which was called as state. He added that one of those provinces would be a Greek Cypriot province and the other would be Turkish Cypriot-Greek Cypriot province.
Noting that Turkish Cypriot people should vote against the Annan plan in referendum which would be held on April 24, Denktas said that otherwise Turkish Cypriots would lose their state and sovereignty.
Denktas said that rights which were seemed to be granted to Turkish Cypriot side would be removed under the European Union (EU) norms and stressed that lasting derogations were not given and could not be given. He added that some deceiving formulas were put forth.
Denktas added that people should go to ballot boxes on April 24 by taking into consideration their sovereignty, state, properties and future.
