BEIJING - Six Chinese fishermen were missing after their boat sank early Sunday following a collision with a South Korean cargo ship off eastern China, state media reported.
The collision occurred in the pre-dawn hours about 30 kilometres (20 miles) off the coast of Zhejiang province, Xinhua news agency said.
The Chinese boat, which had seven people aboard at the time of the accident, sank immediately after colliding with the 1,100-tonne South Korean vessel.
One member of the Chinese crew was later rescued. A search and rescue operation was under way.
The circumstances of the collision were not immediately known, Xinhua said.
A collision between a Chinese vessel and a South Korean ship that sank in May sparked anger among South Koreans because the Chinese crew failed to offer aid to the stricken vessel and did not report the incident for nine hours.
Sixteen sailors from the South Korean vessel died or were missing and presumed dead.
