ANKARA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas has said that the Turkish nation again resorted to its conscience and noted that the funeral of the TRNC which was recognized, raised and fed by Turkey and for which many Turkish soldiers died would take place on April 24 if Turkish Cypriot people continued to be indoctrinated to vote 'yes' in the referendum.
Prior to his departure from Turkey on Friday, Denktas told reporters that politics could not be carried out by considering that Greek Cypriot side would vote 'no' to the U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan on Cyprus in referendum and reiterated his belief that Greek Cypriot side would vote in favor of the plan.
Stating that when he heard voice of the European Union (EU) and the United States, he felt ashamed on behalf of them, Denktas criticized their statements which said that they would lift embargo imposed on Turkish Cypriot side. He added, ''what had we done for this penalty for 40 years?''
When reminded that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was not in attendance in the Parliamentary General Assembly where he addressed Turkish deputies, Denktas said, ''he had appointment and job, so he did not attend. There is no need for my assessment on this issue.''
