WASHINGTON - US First Lady Laura Bush urged UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Friday to condemn Myanmar's crackdown on pro-democracy protesters and to push the Security Council to act, the White House said.
"Mrs. Bush asked him to join the United States in condemning the junta's brutal crackdown," her press secretary Sally McDonough said in a statement.
"She also asked that the UN -- through its Security Council -- take action to prevent further violence and repression in Burma in advance of the 62nd General Assembly in New York."
