LEFKOSA - Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) left for Brussels via Istanbul on Tuesday to attend panel discussions at the European Parliament and International Donors Conference on Cyprus.
Replying to questions of journalists at the Gecitkale Airport prior to his departure, Prime Minister Talat said that he was not satisfied with his today's visit to the Greek Cypriot side.
''The Greek Cypriot side has some difficulties about the stage of putting into practice United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan, and some serious concerns since they still think that Turkey and the Turkish Armed Forces could prevent it. I assured them on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot side and Turkey that such a development would not occur,'' he said.
Upon a question about today's statements of Turkish General Staff Chief General Hilmi Ozkok about the Cyprus issue, Prime Minister Talat said, ''the Turkish Armed Forces' making statements about security is quite natural. We did not get any impression that General Ozkok was opposed to the solution.''
Referring to his meeting with United Nations Secretary General Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, Talat said that they had discussed the meetings to be held in April under their commitments to the United Nations.
Upon a question about attitude of TRNC President Rauf Denktas, Talat told reporters, ''President Denktas has been fulfilling his responsibilities in line with the laws. He listened to views of the Constitutional Court.''
Prime Minister Talat will depart from Istanbul for Brussels on Wednesday morning.
