ANKARA - The number of MPs of the ruling Justice & Development (AK) Party dropped to 340 after Abdullah Gul was elected the new president of Turkey on Tuesday.
There were 549 MPs in the Turkish parliament after July 22nd general elections, not 550 as Mehmet Cihat Ozender who was elected a parliamentarian from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), died in a traffic accident.
Now, there are only 548 MPs at the parliament after Gul's election as president.

Vacant: 2
CHP stands for Republican People's Party, DTP for Democratic Society Party, DSP for Democratic Left Party, ODP for Freedom and Solidarity Party, and BBP for Grand Unity Party.
