ANKARA - Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer went to Anitkabir to bow in front of Ataturk, founder of the modern Turkey, for the last time as President, on Tuesday.
Sezer laid a wreath on the mausoleum, and observed a minute of silence.
Signing Anitkabir special notebook, Sezer wrote that he is happy to complete his mission with loyalty to Ataturk's principles and reforms, constitutional rules as well as fundamental values of the Republic of Turkey.
The third round of voting to elect the 11th President of Turkey will be held at Parliament under the chairmanship of Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan at 3:00 p.m. today. Justice & Development (AK) Party deputy Abdullah Gul, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy Sabahattin Cakmakoglu and Democratic Left Party (DSP) deputy Tayfun Icli are the candidates for president. Candidate who gains votes of 276 deputies will be the 11th president of Turkey. If president is elected, an oath-taking ceremony will be held at the Parliament. Then, hand-over ceremony for presidency will be held at Cankaya Presidential Palace.
