ANKARA - Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul Parliamentarian Kemal Dervis on Tuesday resigned as CHP Central Executive Board member and vice chairman.
Dervis issued a written statement and announced his resignation.
In his written statement, Dervis said, ''there is more than 3.5 years until next general elections. I believe that CHP and Turkish social democracy should be renewed particularly in structural sense, communication with the citizens, relations with intellectuals and non-governmental organizations, approach toward economic and social problems, political effectiveness of women, youth and solidarity with sister parties in Europe. This period should be evaluated well for the general elections envisaged to take place in 2007.''
Dervis said his resignation did not have any link with personal benefits.
