70 STUDENTS DETAINED

ANKARA - Security forces have intervened in a group of students, who attempted to hold an illegal demonstration in Ankara to protest the NATO Summit to be held in Istanbul in June of 2004 and the Higher Education Board (YOK).
A group of students from the Ankara University, gathered in the Kizilay Square on Monday.
Students carrying placards in their hands and chanting slogans against the YOK and NATO Summit, attempted to block roads to traffic.
Security forces warned students to disperse immediately, however, the group did not take the warnings into consideration.
Later, security forces intervened in the group and detained 70 students.
The detainees were taken to the Provincial Directorate of Security for questioning.
