WILL TO TURKEY
Leading Turkish businessman Sakip Sabanci wrote a letter to Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul five days before he died and asked Turkey to continue efforts on the road to the European Union (EU) and Cyprus. In his letter, Sabanci congratulated Gul on their efforts to pass necessary adjustment loans on the road to the EU and on their success in Cyprus negotiations.

WHATEVER YOU WANT TO EXPLAIN, EXPLAIN IT IN CYPRUS
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who went to Japan for an official visit, harshly reacted to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas: ''If there is something to do, do it in Cyprus. Whatever you want to explain, explain it in Cyprus.'' Erdogan said, ''I regret that TRNC President comes to Turkey and holds meetings with very marginal groups. And, I said this to him. He came to Turkey to attend a meeting held by Ankara Chamber of Commerce. Majority of those who joined this meeting were those who called Turkish Armed Forces as ''occupier forces.''

FAMILY TORTURES DAUGHTER-IN-LAW DUE TO HEADSCARF
Meliha Demir, who went from central Kirsehir province to France after she married, was saved by police, acting on a tip-off, on April 3. Demir, 20, who is 5-month pregnant and who has one child, was beaten, her hair was cut and his head was burnt. Court asks for 20 years of imprisonment for Demir's husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and brother-in-law. Demir was brought to Social Services Agency with her 20-month child. Members of her family claimed that they were violent against Demir since she was strolling in streets and smoking.

TALAT: DELAY OF REFERENDA IS UNACCEPTABLE
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat said that if the simultaneous referenda to be held in the island on April 24 was delayed, interests of Turkish Cypriots would be harmed. Talat said that it was impossible for TRNC to accept call of the Greek Cypriot communist AKEL Party to delay the referenda for a few more months.

WRONG ADDRESS, MR DENKTAS!
Simultaneous referenda will be held in Cyprus but Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas carries out his campaign for ''no'' to the United Nations (U.N.) plan for Cyprus with marginal groups in Turkey. Only 12 days are left to the simultaneous referenda which will determine the fate of the island. But, Denktas has held shuttle meetings in Turkey so far. He spoke in meetings in Ankara, Bursa, Istanbul or any other place in Turkey. He joined meetings held by chambers, bars and universities. Denktas, who carried out campaign to say ''no'' to the plan in Turkey instead of sharing his views with his own people, has taken support from marginal groups and associations. Denktas' lobby for making a speech at the Turkish parliament caused problems in Ankara. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told TRNC President Denktas, ''if you want to hold demonstration, do it in Cyprus. Whatever you want to explain, explain it in Cyprus.'' Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc warned Denktas that ''he should not make Turkey a part of the discussion.''

CYPRUS MAY BE DIVIDED: TWO STATES WILL COME OUT OF BALLOT BOX
Majority of Turkish Cypriot side is expected to vote ''yes'' to the plan in the simultaneous referenda to be held in the island on April 24 while most of the Greek Cypriots are expected to vote ''no'' to the plan. In this case, two-state structure will come out of the referenda as a requirement of the United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan.

ORDER TO DENKTAS TO STOP TALKING
Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan pressed on Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas. Erdogan accused Denktas, who has launched a campaign to say ''no'' to United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan for Cyprus in the simultaneous referenda to be held in the island on April 24, of holding meetings with marginal groups in Turkey. Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc criticized Denktas of holding meetings in Ankara and Bursa on Annan plan. Arinc said that the referenda would be held in the island and said, ''200 thousand people will cast votes in TRNC. It is not the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) and Bursa Bar which will cast their votes in the simultaneous referenda in Cyprus.''

REACTION OF PARTIES AND NGOs TO ERDOGAN: ''EVERYBODY IS MARGINAL EXCEPT AKP''
Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) Chairman Sinan Aygun said, ''all political parties except Justice and Development Party (AK Party) joined the meeting we held on Cyprus. Are parties forming 55 percent of Turkey marginal?'' Denktas, who has accepted call of the Turkish Parliamentary Union, is expected to give a conference in Ankara this week.

SABANCI TO BE LAID TO REST BY STATE FUNERAL
Leading Turkish businessman Sakip Sabanci will be laid to rest by a state funeral today under the instruction of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler said that a ceremony would be held at the Sabanci Center at 11.00 a.m. on Monday and Sabanci would be laid to rest after the religious ceremony at Fatih Mosque at noon.

OZKOK TO HOLD BRIEFING ON TUESDAY
Turkish Chief of General Staff Hilmi Ozkok will hold a press conference on Tuesday in which he will inform journalists about internal and external developments concerning Turkey and its region. Ozkok postponed the press conference he was scheduled to hold on Monday to Tuesday due to leading Turkish businessman Sabanci's funeral.

NORTH OF ISLAND WILL REMAIN TURKISH
Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat responds to claims that ''United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan's plan for Cyprus would make TRNC Greek Cypriot'' : ''The north of the island will remain Turkish.'' Appearing on private TGRT channel, Talat said that TRNC Foreign Minister and government partner Serdar Denktas would say ''yes'' to the plan in the simultaneous referenda to be held in the island on April 24.

HERE IS RECENT SURVEY: 63 PERCENT SAY ''YES''
A survey carried out on 1,003 people in five different places in TRNC indicates that 63 percent of Turkish Cypriot people will vote ''yes'' to Annan plan. The rate of those who will vote ''no'' to the plan dropped to 17 percent.

POLICE CAN'T ENTER ROOM WHERE DOCTOR EXAMINES PERSON FOR TORTURE REPORT
Turkey has taken an important step to prevent torture allegations. From now on, security forces can't influence report of the doctor who examines if a suspect is tortured or not. Only the prosecutor who carries out the investigation can read the report of the doctor.
