ISTANBUL - Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen returned from the United States to Turkey on Sunday.
Tuzmen told reporters at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport that he attended the 23rd Annual Conference of the American Turkish Council (ATC) in Washington and stated that he met with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick and discussed several issues.
Stating that he later proceeded to New York and attended the opening of the American-Turkish Chamber of Trade and Industry, Tuzmen said that he believed that the chamber would make important contributions to further improvement of trade volume between Turkey and the United States.
Tuzmen went to the United States on April 4. He was accompanied by Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul.
Turkish State Minister Tuzmen attended luncheon hosted upon the 23rd Annual Conference on U.S.-Turkish Relations organized by the American Turkish Council (ATC) on April 5 and stressed in the luncheon that Turkey's strategy to increase trade and independence of countries on each other in its region was a unique formula to ensure regional peace.
Tuzmen met with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick on April 6 and stated that they proposed that only high-tech products should be produced in Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZ) that were expected to be set up with the United States and stated that U.S. side considered this view positive.
