NEW YORK - Turkey had appropriate atmosphere for foreign investments with its low inflation rate, exports and stable economy, Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Saturday.
Turkish State Minister Tuzmen, who is currently in New York for the opening ceremony of Turkish-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, told A.A correspondent, ``the United States is a country which imports 1.5 trillion U.S. dollars of goods from countries in a year. Turkey should make good use of it.``
Stating that Turkey should attract U.S. capital with its developing economy, he said that appropriate atmosphere was created in economic and politic fields and also with legal arrangements in Turkey.
Tuzmen went to the United States on April 4. He was accompanied by Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul.
Turkish State Minister Tuzmen attended luncheon hosted upon the 23rd Annual Conference on U.S.-Turkish Relations organized by the American Turkish Council (ATC) on April 5 and stressed in the luncheon that Turkey`s strategy to increase trade and independence of countries on each other in its region was a unique formula to ensure regional peace.
Tuzmen met with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick on April 6 and stated that they proposed that only high-tech products should be produced in Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZ) that were expected to be set up with the United States and stated that U.S. side considered this view positive.
Turkish State Minister Tuzmen will depart from the United States on Saturday evening.
JEWELRY TO BE RISING SECTOR IN EXPORTS FROM TURKEY TO UNITED STATES
Jewelry would be the rising sector in exports from Turkey to the United States in coming days, Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Saturday.
Speaking in the opening ceremony of Turkish-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry in New York, Tuzmen said that trade volume between two countries had exceeded 7 billion U.S. dollars, including 3.7 billion of exports and 3.4 billion of imports.
Tuzmen noted that the chamber would contribute to increase of trade volume between two countries.
Turkish State Minister Tuzmen said that Turkey`s aim was to increase trade volume with the United States to 10 billion U.S. dollars.
Turkey currently exported around 1.7 billion U.S. dollars of textile products, 350 million U.s. dollars of iron-steel products, and 250 million U.S. dollars of jewelry to the United States, Tuzmen pointed out.
Tuzmen expressed belief that jewelry would be the rising sector in Turkey`s exports to the United States and said that Turkey had the potential to double its jewelry exports to the United States within a few years.
Later, Tuzmen told A.A correspondent that he held fruitful meetings with representatives of U.S. textile sector in Washington.
Tuzmen said that cooperation between Turkish and U.S. textile sectors was gradually improving.
Work on qualified industrial zones would be intensified in coming days, Tuzmen added.
