ANKARA - "The nomination of Tayfun Icli, a Democratic Left Party (DSP) deputy from Eskisehir, for president will not change our decision to not participate in the first round of voting on Monday," said Mustafa Ozyurek, Deputy Chairman of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), on Monday.
Speaking to the AA, Ozyurek noted that the "CHP made its stance known regarding Abdullah Gul's candidacy. There has not been any change."
"The CHP had announced that it would not support Gul's presidency. We announced that we will not participate in the voting for the president. We stand by our former declaration," stressed Ozyurek.
Abdullah Gul was declared as a candidate for president by his Justice and Development (AK) Party prior to the general elections of July 22nd.
