ANKARA - Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Hilmi Guler stated on Monday that, according to the agreement Turkey and Iran reached, Turkish private sector would establish three natural gas transformation power plants of 2000 megawatts in Iran.
Returning to Turkey from Iran, Guler replied to questions at Ankara's Esenboga airport.
Guler stated that he had fruitful talks with Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad, Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Motaki, Acting Petroleum Minister of Iran Gulam Hussein Nozeri and Iranian Energy Minister Parviz Fatah during his 2-day visit to Iranian capital of Tehran.
Noting that the two countries agreed to improve the electricity transmission lines, Guler said it would be possible to transfer nearly 3-6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually with the establishment of new lines.
Guler also stressed that Turkish entrepreneurs would establish 10,000 megawatt-hydroelectric power plants in Iran via build-operate-transfer model.
Underscoring that Turkey was in the limelight as a result of the successes it achieved recently, Guler said, "Electricity connections have a great importance within the European electricity network. Turkey has an outstanding geographical position as a passageway regarding natural gas, oil and electricity as well. All the recent developments make Turkey a key energy player in the world".
