Istanbul To Host Democracy Congress Of Islam Countries

ISTANBUL - Leaders of countries having mostly Muslim population, will convene in Istanbul to discuss the issue of ''Democratic Governance in the Islam World''.
Officials from European, Asian, Middle Eastern and African countries will attend the ''Democracy Congress of Islam Countries'' between April 13 and 14, 2004.
The participants will focus on the issues such as ''multi-party electoral system'', ''judicial independence'', ''participation of women in political life'', and ''formation of an influential civil society''.
The congress targets to form a ''Democracy Platform'' to underline principles of democratic governance.
The congress will start with opening remarks of Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul, President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah of Sierra Leone and Foreign Minister Marwan Muasher of Jordan on April 13.
