DAMASCUS - Turkish Parliament Speaker Bulent Arinc, who is currently in Syrian capital Damascus, said on Wednesday that Turkish and Syrian peoples were adherents of the same faith and this constituted the most powerful tie between the two countries.
Arinc visited Syrian People's Assembly Speaker Mahmoud al-Abrash.
Later a meeting was held between delegations of the two countries.
Stating that Turkey and Syria were two countries which had friendly ties, Arinc said that the two countries had some problems in the past, but the two sides' positive steps removed these problems in the last four years.
Arinc said, ''the two countries have many common points. One of them is that we are adherents of the same faith. This constitutes the most powerful tie between the two countries.''
