BURSA - Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Rauf Denktas said on Monday that ''we have seen Kosovo and Palestine for years. They said that they solved problems there. Then, people are being killed there. They try to reach a result with a similar pressure.''
Denktas arrived in Bursa to participate in a conference held by Bursa Bar.
''I am afraid of events which might happen after they said they provided peace. They started war in Iraq due to wrong and exaggerated information. If justice and law are above all things, there is happiness in a country. Things which are tried to be achieved by force will be temporary. I have been defending the cause of the people. After we founded the state, they did not give us opportunity to sublime the state. They try to take our state from us. We started our struggle not to lose our state. We have not lost our state so far. I hope that we will not lose it,'' he stated.
When he was asked what his views about referendum in Cyprus were, Denktas said, ''I think that I am positive about referendum in Cyprus. We should not close our eyes to facts because closing eyes to facts is not a positive attitude. I will not be a positive attitude if we keep close our eyes to facts and keep saying 'we have had a good result and we have to say yes to this result. We should tell our people facts.''
Stating that nobody could explain 9 thousand page Annan plan to people till the referendum, he said, ''they prepared a constitution for us from a draft in a newspaper. Such a thing does not take place anywhere in the world. People consider our attitude negative because we say 'no' to those things. People don't know 9 thousand page plan, we don't know it, either. Referendum should be postponed. If it is necessary to adjust laws, let's do it.''
