ANKARA - Turkey exported goods of 4 billion 372.1 million U.S. dollars and imported goods of 5 billion 858.4 million U.S. dollars in January of 2004.
In the same period last year, Turkey exported goods of 3 billion 528.5 million U.S. dollars, and imported goods of 4 billion 383.2 million U.S. dollars.
The State Institute of Statistics (DIE) announced that exports rose by 23.9 percent and imports increased by 33.7 percent.
Meanwhile, foreign trade deficit climbed 73.9 percent from 855 million U.S. dollars to 1 billion 486 million U.S. dollars.
The rate of exports meeting imports dropped from 80.5 percent to 74.6 percent.
Exports of agricultural and forestry products reduced by 6.3 percent, exports of fishery products dropped by 25 percent and exports of mining and quarry products fell by 2 percent.
Exports of manufacturing industry products rose by 26.1 percent.
Imports of agricultural and forestry products increased by 59.8 percent, imports of mining and quarry products climbed by 3.6 percent and imports of manufacturing industry products rose by 36.4 percent.
Imports of capital goods increased by 56 percent and imports of intermediate goods rose by 25.9 percent, and imports of consumer goods climbed by 72 percent.
Exports of capital goods increased by 15 percent, exports of intermediate goods rose by 16.3 percent and exports of consumer goods climbed by 31.1 percent.
Exports to the member countries to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) increased to 23.2 percent, exports to the European Union (EU) countries increased by 27.7 percent, and exports to the European Free Trade Area (EFTA) countries climbed by 26.1 percent.
Meanwhile, imports from OECD countries rose by 35.3 percent, imports from the EU-member countries increased by 34.3 percent, and imports from the EFTA countries climbed by 54.2 percent.
