DENKTAS TO SAY ''NO''
A delegation headed by Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) who represented the TRNC at the four-party talks in Switzerland, met with TRNC President Rauf Denktas to inform him on their meetings in Switzerland. Following the meeting, President Denktas told reporters, ''there is not any difference between the first and the last plan of United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan. I will say 'no' at the referendum to be held about the plan. I will explain my reasons to reject the plan to my people soon.''

CYPRUS SESSION TO BE HELD AT PARLIAMENT
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul has applied to the parliament to hold a special session at the parliamentary general assembly over the Cyprus issue on April 6. The Parliamentary General Assembly will hold a special session on Tuesday. Foreign Minister Gul, who attended the four-party talks in Switzerland, will inform the MPs on latest developments in the island.

SUCH AN IGNORANT MAN
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell made a very serious blunder by saying that there would be an Islamic republic in Iraq just like in Turkey and Pakistan. Speaking on a German television channel, Powell said that it would happen under a constitutional framework and Islamic law, adding that the Koran would be one of the sources of laws. We hope that Iraq would be a democratic country and an Islamic state, Powell said and noted that Islam is the biggest religion in the country, asking why shouldn't there be an Islamic country like Turkey and democracy like in Turkey at the same time.

MFA DELEGATION TO GO TO PALACE TO PERSUADE SEZER
Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government is concerned about a failure in fulfilling the condition of approval of Cyprus deal by Turkey four days after referendum. The government will launch initiatives on persuading the President to prevent any problem. Briefing President Ahmet Necdet Sezer by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) delegation that held talks in Burgenstock is on the agenda.

NO NEW 'MAKARIOS'
According to the final plan, the United Cyprus Republic and founder states are secular. Religious functionary can't make politics and they can't be appointed as public officials. With this article, priests in Greek Cypriot side are completely prevented from engaging in politics, closing all paths in front of emergence of ''new Makarioses''.

SECURITY FORCES DETAIN 63 PEOPLE IN OPERATION AGAINST DHKP-C
Security Deputy Director General Ramazan Er has said that 63 people were detained both in Turkey and abroad under a synchronous operation in five countries against the Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C). He noted that Fehriye Erdal, a member of the illegal organization and one of suspects of killing of businessman Ozdemir Sabanci in 1996, was under detention in Belgium.

EU INCLUDES KONGRA-GEL IN ITS LIST OF TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS
Upon insistent requests of Turkey, the European Union (EU) has included the PKK/Kongra-Gel in its list of terrorist organizations. During yesterday's meeting, the EU decided to include the Kongra-Gel in its list of terrorist organizations as of April 3. The EU, earlier, listed both the PKK and the Islamic Great Eastern Raiders Front (IBDA-C) in this list.

POWELL TALKS NONSENSE
Colin Powell, the Secretary of State of the United States which has been trying to increase its influence over the whole Middle East region by putting into practice the Greater Middle East Initiative, has described Turkey, a democratic and secular republic, as an Islamic republic. He said that Iraq would become an Islamic republic like Turkey, Pakistan and the other Islamic republics. U.S. sources said that Powell's statement was misunderstood, noting that Powell was trying to express that Turkey was a democratic state with its mostly Muslim population.

ANKARA DGM REJECTS REQUESTS OF FORMER DEP DEPUTIES
Ankara State Security Court (DGM) has rejected the request of Leyla Zana, Hatip Dicle, Orhan Dogan and Selim Sadak, the former deputies of the banned Democracy Party (DEP), for release from prison. Former DEP deputies boycotted the court, and did not attend the hearing. Meanwhile, their lawyer Yusuf Alatas claimed that trial of his clients became scene of countless illegal acts.

WHAT DOES YOK CHAIRMAN MEAN?
Higher Board of Education (YOK) Chairman Prof. Dr. Erdogan Tezic has said that political powers in constitutional systems should use support of people without weakening values of the state. Continuing to criticize the government Prof. Dr. Tezic said, ''we cannot describe efforts of the government which concentrated on vocational high schools and clothes of students as reform.''

WORLD EULOGIZES CYPRUS
Besides the United States, both the European Union (EU) and the EU-member countries have clearly supported the plan of United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and called on the sides not to miss such an opportunity of peace. Meanwhile, Turkey has been exerting efforts for inclusion of an agreement to be reached between the sides, in the primary law of the EU.

OPPORTUNITY OF SOLUTION SHOULDN'T BE MISSED
Association of Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen (TUSIAD) is pleased with the result taken in Switzerland: ''Opportunity of solution should not be missed.'' TUSIAD Chairman Omer Sabanci said that Turkey should get hold of initiatives for solution of problems around her and the stance deployed towards the Cyprus issue was a good display of it. ''The government has been showing a will of solution which should really be appreciated. The government should insistently maintain its determined position for settlement of peace in Cyprus.''

''BOTH SIDES ARE EARNERS''
Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul who went to Brussels to attend the NATO meeting, met with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell. Gul stressed that the result in Switzerland was gainful to both sides while Powell said he agreed with Gul and their support would continue.

SURPRISING ALLEGATION
Surprising allegation: ''The Belgian Interior Ministry made a deal with DHKP-C!'' Holding a news conference, DHKP-C terrorist Musa Asoglu who stays in Belgium together with Fehriye Erdal, a suspect of assassination of businessman Ozdemir Sabanci in 1996, said that they were not convicts and they had a deal with Belgium on basis of trust, adding that they took their own decisions on the place where Fehriye Erdal stayed.

DENKTAS PERSUADED
A meeting was held at the TRNC Presidential Office to assess the final plan presented by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan. TRNC Prime Minister Mehmet Ali Talat said that TRNC President Rauf Denktas was persuaded about the revisions in the plan. Meanwhile, opposition party TKP announced that they would say 'yes' in referendum.

UNITED STATES WANTS TO CONTROL TRANSPORTATION AT NATO SUMMIT
Preparatory works for the NATO Summit to be held in Istanbul between June 28 and 29, 2004 with the participation of U.S. President George W. Bush and presidents of 62 countries, have been accelerated. Periodic meetings have been held between foreign officials and officials of the Directorate General of Security, the Gendarme Forces Command, the National Intelligence Agency (MIT), the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It was revealed that the United States had proposed to control land, air and sea traffic during the summit. U.S. officials visited Istanbul's Ataturk Airport yesterday.
