Six coal miners were unaccounted for Monday after a tunnel caved in at a mine in a remote area of Utah, according to authorities in Emery County.
The collapse occurred at the Genwal Mine in Huntington Canyon, roughly 120 miles southeast of Salt Lake City, at approximately 4:00 a.m. local time on 6 August 2007.
A nearby earthquake measuring magnitude 4.0 had struck within 20 miles of the site about an hour before the tunnel gave way. Authorities could not confirm how many workers had been underground at the time.
The Genwal Mine supplies coal to regional utility Rocky Mountain Power, which dispatched rescue teams to the site following reports of the accident.
