ANKARA - Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ugur Ziyal met on Friday with European Union (EU) member countries' ambassadors in Ankara.
Ziyal informed ambassadors about negotiations in Switzerland and the final Annan plan in the meeting which lasted for 45 minutes, and they exchanged views on the issue.
Sources said that Ziyal underlined once again the importance of including the agreement which would be reached in Cyprus in the primary law of the EU. Ziyal noted that they also expected support of EU countries at the Donors' Conference which would be held in Brussels on April 15.
The final Cyprus plan which was submitted by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan to sides in Swiss resort of Buergenstock said that the number of Turkish and Greek troops on the island would be reduced to 6 thousand by 2011 and 3 thousand by 2018. After that date, the number of Greek troops will be 950 and the number of Turkish troops will be 650 on the island. The sides will review the situation every three years.
The final plan noted that Cyprus which has two constituent states has single international legal personality and sovereignty.
The official languages of the United Cyprus Republic will be Greek and Turkish. The federal Parliament shall be composed of two Chambers: the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. The 48-seat Senate will be comprised of 24 Turkish Cypriots and 24 Greek Cypriots.
Elections will be held for federal institutions, parliament and European Parliament on June 13. Federal government will be comprised of three Turkish Cypriot and three Greek Cypriot ministers. There will be four Greek Cypriot and two Turkish Cypriot deputies in the European Parliament.
The Presidential Council will be comprised of six Greek Cypriots and three Turkish Cypriots and the office of President and Vice-President shall rotate every ten months between the two elected members. Greek Cypriots will serve as president for 40 months and Turkish Cypriots will serve as president for 20 months.
Administration of the regions that shall be handed over to Greek Cypriot state will be given at six phases in 42 months under the supervision of the United Nations.
