LEFKOSA - President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Thursday that EU Commissioner for Enlargement Guenter Verheugen, who said Denktas did not represent majority of the Turkish Cypriot people, should not be taken seriously.
Replying to questions of reporters, Denktas said, ''you should not take Verheugen seriously. He always considered me as an obstacle. It will be clarified in elections whom I represent. The elections will take place after 1.5 years.''
Stating that Turkish Cypriot side made the maximum concessions during the talks, Denktas said Greek Cypriots did not make any concessions.
Calling on this attitude of the Greek Cypriots to be examined well, Denktas said the damage given to Turkish Cypriots from 1963 to 1974 should be compensated, Denktas said Greek Cypriots did not seem willing for this.
