ERZURUM/ANKARA - Death toll rose to nine in the earthquake which shook Cat town of eastern Erzurum province on Thursday, sources said on Friday.
Eight people, including four children in Kucukgecit village of Erzurum's Askale town and one person in Karabiyik village died in the earthquake as they were trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
Meanwhile, the Red Crescent sent 50 tents, 820 blankets, 50 kitchen sets, and food to the quake zone.
Elementary schools and high schools were recessed on Friday in the wake of the earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale.
Search and rescue teams ended their relief efforts in the quake zone early on Friday.
A moderate earthquake shook Erzurum on Thursday. The earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale was centered in Cat town.
The earthquake claimed nine lives while 46 people were injured in the quake.
