Closure Case Against Dehap

NURI OK MAKES VERBAL STATEMENTS

ANKARA - Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor Nuri Ok has made verbal statements to the Constitutional Court delegation regarded with the closure case against the Democratic People's Party (DEHAP).
Replying to questions of journalists as departing from Constitutional Court, Ok said on Thursday, ''as you know, two separate lawsuits were filed for closure of the DEHAP. Today, I reiterated my views about merits of the cases.''
Upon a question, Ok said, ''I requested the court delegation to listen to defense of DEHAP officials who led filing of these lawsuits with their statements and activities.''
DEHAP officials will make their verbal defense on April 8.
Later, the file of the cases will be given to a rapporteur.
After the rapporteur conducts necessary study, the Constitutional Court will take a decision about the case.
Former Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Prosecutor Sabih Kanadoglu filed his first lawsuit against DEHAP on March 13, 2003 on charges of ''becoming focal point of actions against principles of democratic republic, equality and rule of law''. The second lawsuit was filed on April 29, 2003 on charges of ''having connection with the terrorist organization of PKK/KADEK and, as a result, becoming focal point of actions against inseparable unity of the state with its country and people.'' Kanadoglu requested the Constitutional Court to close down the political party.
The court has been debating the two cases together.
