Prime Minister and Chairman of Justice & Development (AK) Party Recep Tayyip Erdogan won a victory in general elections on July 22nd, and he started the second term in the rule.
ERDOGAN: ALL VOTES ARE IMPORTANT FOR US
Addressing to the cheering crowd in front of Justice & Development (AK) Party headquarters, Prime Minister and Chairman of AK Party Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "this success will not spoil us. It increased our responsibility."
SHOCK IN CHP
Preparations, which started with excitement at Republican People's Party (CHP) HQ for a probable election victory, left its place to tension in evening hours. Results of election was assessed as "shock" at HQ.

Justice & Development (AK) Party, which again won the rule alone, wrote its name on history as a ruling party that increased its votes most in the history of Republic of Turkey.
JET RESIGNATION FROM AGAR
Democrat Party (DP) chairman Mehmet Agar --who said prior to the elections that he would resign if they cannot pass the threshold-- resigned from his post as soon as the first results appeared.

52 WOMEN IN PARLIAMENT
Number of woman deputies doubled. 31 from AK Party, 10 from CHP, 2 from MHP and 9 independents supported by Democratic Society Party (DTP) entered the parliament.

ERDOGAN SWEEPS ELECTION
After Aydin Menderes, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been the only leader who increased his votes as ruling party in elections. Justice & Development (AK) Party has increased its votes 12.2 percent over 2002 elections and gained 5.7 million of votes. AK Party stepped up in 80 of 81 Turkish provinces.
However, AK Party could not reach the quorum of 367 required to change the constitution and elect the new president. Now the new parliament will face a crucial presidential election. Parties will have to reach a compromise on a candidate.
CLAIMS REGARDING BAYKAL'S RESIGNATION
Despite its electoral coalition with Democratic Left Party, Republican People's Party (CHP) was entangled after failing to gain expected votes.
Baykal did not make any statements following the results. Secretary General Onder Sav, who spoke on behalf of the party, gave hesitant answers to questions on whether or not Chairman Deniz Baykal will withdraw. "Voters gave again CHP the mission of serving as the main opposition party," said Sav, who was protested by a group of CHP members.
MHP SUCCESS KEPT IN BACKGROUND
Devlet Bahceli's Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) returned to parliament with 71 deputies. Issuing a written statement after the results, Bahceli said, "Turkish nation brought AK Party to power for a second time, we should respect our nation's will. Our nation assigned us as the opposition."

PARLIAMENT OF FOUR GROUPS
Justice & Development (AK) Party which increased its votes 10 points according to elections in 2002 has become the rule again with 46.3 percent. However, AK Party's number of deputies dropped from 365 to 339 as Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and independents entered the parliament. Republican People's Party (CHP) could not increase its rate of vote.
MEHMET AGAR TOOK THE MESSAGE
When Democrat Party (DP) could not pass the threshold due to low vote rate, resignations occurred at the party. DP Chairman Mehmet Agar and deputy chairman Nuzhet Kandemir resigned from their posts.

In the elections which was held over debates on presidential palace and 'memorandum', Justice & Development (AK) Party --which was on the rule-- gained a success that happens rarely. Also 26 independents --except three-- who entered the parliament were elected from lists of Democratic Society Party (DTP).
ERDOGAN STRESSES COMPROMISE
Prime Minister and Justice & Development (AK) Party chairman Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "your votes are valuable for whomever you cast them. People told us to continue activities. This is a national reflex."

Justice & Development (AK) Party led by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan --which rose its votes instead of being fray over 5-year of ruling-- increased its number of votes from 10,800,000 (in 2002 elections) to 17,000,000.
MHP AT PARLIAMENT
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) led by Devlet Bahceli which remained out of parliament in 2002 elections gained a big success. MHP won nearly 15 percent votes and entered the parliament as the third party.

PEOPLE SAYS FINAL WORD
Justice & Development (AK) Party won a victory with 46.6 percent of votes in July 22nd general elections. Republican People's Party failed in the contest held under the shadow of presidential election. Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) increased its votes to 14.2 percent which was a noteworthy rise.
PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, MOST IMPORTANT TOPIC ON AGENDA OF NEW PARLIAMENT
Election process, which started following a presidential election deadlock in parliament, ended by ruling party's victory. Presidential election will be the most important topic on the agenda of the new parliament. MHP's attitude will be determining factor in presidential election.

Turkey, in spite of non-political interventions, proved its democratic maturity at ballot boxes. Justice & Development (AK) Party gained an absolute victory in the general elections which was held with 81 percent participation.
