Turkish Delegation Uneasy About Attempts To Hold Two-party Talks Instead Of Four-party Conference

BUERGENSTOCK - The Greek and the Greek Cypriot sides have been trying to impose the idea of holding Cyprus talks between the two sides of the island instead of holding a four-party conference with the participation of Turkey and Greece. Meanwhile, the Turkish side felt uneasy about the ongoing uncertainty over the fate of the conference.
Diplomatic sources told the A.A correspondent on Wednesday that the United Nations had failed to present a schedule or a program about the four-party conference to the Turkish side so far.
Furthermore, the Turkish Cypriot and the Greek Cypriot sides were invited to hold a bilateral meeting later today.
Turkish diplomatic sources said that although they were not officially notified, they had an impression that the Greek and the Greek Cypriot sides were trying to impose the idea of holding Cyprus talks between the two sides of the island instead of holding four-party conference with the participation of Turkey and Greece.
The same sources noted that they had launched a series of initiatives both in the United Nations and the Greek delegation to prevent such an attempt.
Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Petros Moliviatis of Greece, who arrived in Switzerland a few hours ago, met with United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro De Soto.
Following the meeting, Moliviatis is expected to meet with Turkish Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul.
