ISTANBUL - Soccer federation canceled the contract of national coach Senol Gunes on Monday.
Federation president Haluk Ulusoy made the announcement after a regular meeting of the federation's executive board.
Ulusoy said Senol Gunes' contract would have expired on July 13, 2004, noting that the board had taken the decision to allow a new man to settle in before the World Cup qualifiers.
Ulusoy wished the decision to be beneficial for the Turkish football.
Ulusoy said they would meet the legal obligations regarding contract of Gunes.
Ulusoy said executive board authorized him for the new national coach, and stated that he preferred a Turkish coach.
Senol Gunes said, ''I considered myself successful and I wanted to continue, but I respect the decision.''
