NEW YORK - General Staff Deputy Chief General Ilker Basbug has held successful meetings during his official visit to Washington D.C., the United States last week, diplomatic sources said on Monday.
Sources told the A.A correspondent that General Basbug's visit to the United States was considered very successful in regard to giving some significant messages to the U.S. officials.
Noting that military relations between Turkey and the United States had been put in the right track once again, the same sources quoted General Basbug as saying, ''our holding talks with U.S. officials for the fourth time in the last six months is the most concrete sign of it.''
General Basbug, who paid an official visit to the United States as the guest of U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman General Peter Pace, held talks with U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Mira Ricardel for Eurasian Affairs, U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth Jones for Europe and Eurasia.
