TOKYO - A strong earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck in the Sea of Japan (East Sea) off Kyoto, western Japan, hours after a separate killer quake, the meteorological agency said Monday.
The latest quake occurred at 11:13 pm (1413 GMT) with the epicentre located at 370 kilometers (229 miles) under the seabed, the agency said, adding that there was no fear of tsunami tidal waves.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage following the tremor, government officials said.
Earlier in the day, the 6.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Japan, killing seven people, injuring hundreds more and causing a radiation leak at one of the world's biggest nuclear plants.
