TEHRAN - "Transportation is important for international cooperation and implementation of joint projects," said Ismet Yilmaz, Turkish Minister of Transportation, on Sunday.
In a keynote speech delivered at the ministerial meeting of the Second International Iran Transportation Forum in Tehran, Yilmaz indicated that "transportation has a vital role in economies. We must have international cooperation in the area of transportation."
"All countries must eradicate technical and political obstacles in international transportation," noted Yilmaz.
Yilmaz remarked that "the transportation network between Asia and Europe has shown great development in recent times. We must work so that transportation is made easier between Asia and Europe, obstacles at borders are lifted and bureaucracy is made easier."
Meanwhile, Yilmaz's Iranian counterpart Mohammad Rahmati indicated that "Iran, as a country on the Silk Road, is a prominent country in global transportation."
The ministerial meeting in Tehran was attended by transportation ministers from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Armenia.
Yilmaz is scheduled to return to Turkey later on Sunday evening.
