LEFKOSA - A joint committee formed by Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot side agreed on Friday on the national anthem of ''United Cyprus Republic'', which will start to be used after two sides found the federal republic after synchronous referenda to be held on April 20.
The joint Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot committee finalized its work on the national anthem and adopted the national anthem of ''United Cyprus Republic'' in today's meeting.
The national anthem approved unanimously by Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot members of the committee will be submitted to Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaderships for approval.
The new instrumental Cyprus national anthem that was chosen among 111 anthems resembles Cypriot melodies.
Names of compositors of the melodies are expected to be announced after the national anthem is ratified.
Yilmaz Taner, Eralp Adanir and Ozkay Hoca represented TRNC in the joint committee dealing with national anthem.
The flag of ''United Cyprus Republic'' was chosen last week among hundreds of flag designs presented to the joint committee working on flag. TRNC Council of Ministers had ratified the flag of ''United Cyprus Republic'' on Wednesday.
The federal flag ratified by Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot leaderships will be the new flag of the federal republic after an agreement is signed by the two sides.
TRNC and Greek Cypriot side started Cyprus negotiations on February 19 to find a fair and lasting solution to Cyprus issue till May 1 on the basis of United Nations (U.N.) Secretary General Kofi Annan plan.
If sides fail to reach a solution till March 22, a quartet conference will take place among TRNC, Greek Cypriot side, Turkey and Greece.
U.N. Secretary General Annan will fill in the blanks left in the plan if participants can't reach any compromise in quartet meetings, and the text to be formed at the end of all these initiatives will be voted in referenda to be held synchronously in the Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides on April 20.
