More than 100 injured in quake in Japan: report

TOKYO - More than 100 people were injured in the powerful earthquake that struck central Japan on Monday, public broadcaster NHK said.
More than 100 people were taken to hospitals after being hurt in the quake, NHK said. It did not specify how serious the injuries were and officials were not immediately available for comment.
Television footage showed damage to a number of buildings across central Niigata prefecture, including Japanese-style wooden homes whose roofs collapsed with rubble strewn across the ground.
Footage also showed a bridge that suffered cracks and shops where groceries tumbled to the ground.
