BRUSSELS - Turkey-European Union (EU) Association Committee's 112th meeting was held in Brussels on Tuesday.
Volkan Bozkir, the Deputy Undersecretary responsible for the EU and relations with the EU member countries, headed a delegation comprised of high level officials from Customs and Treasury undersecretariats and Agriculture Ministry.
Turkey's accession process to the EU and various issues within Customs Union were discussed at the meeting.
Bozkir said elements which they wanted Turkey to meet in EU accession process were reiterated at the meeting.
Bozkir said information was given to the EU side about things fulfilled and planned to be fulfilled in Turkey. He said financial cooperation, cooperation issues in domestic affairs, justice and sea transportation were discussed in detail.
Focusing on the legal and constitutional amendments that would be made after elections, Bozkir said constitutional change about State Security Courts (DGMs) was considered as primary, and that military representations within the body of Higher Board of Education (YOK) and Supreme Board of Radio and Television (RTUK) would be lifted. He said amendments would also be made to Turkish Penal Code (TCK).
Bozkir said he gave detailed information that Government Accounting Bureau and parliament would control the defense budget and defense funds, Civil Code was amended, courses apart from Turkish language were opened, and that obstacles in front of TV and radio broadcast were removed.
Customs Union and regional and macroeconomic imbalances were also discussed at the meeting.
Steps taken in Turkey to eliminate the problems on those areas were examined at the meeting.
