ANKARA - A forest fire fanned by strong winds threatened homes in the southwestern Turkish town of Bordun, which is popular with holidaymakers, local authorities said Saturday.
The fire had reached to within around one kilometre (half a mile) of the edge of the town and had badly damaged three houses.
Ibrahim Aydin, local head of forestry services, told news channel CNN-Turk that three fire-fighting aircraft and five helicopters were battling the blaze, but "the strong winds are making our job very difficult."
He said that some 20 people had been affected by smoke, while Anatolia news agency said that local residents had been urged to assist the firemen.
