''WE HAVE ANNULLED THEIR PASSPORTS''
Jordan's King Abdullah clarified a ''secret'' question. He said, ''yes, we gave passports to Uzans, but now that we take them back.''
King Abdullah said, ''as we did for all investors, we gave passports to Cem and Hakan Uzan which are valid for five years. Period of passports of Uzans will expire at the end of 2004.''
He said, ''we have given necessary information to authorized institutions. Passports of Uzans will be confiscated in case they apply. Their new passports are not valid from now on. They are not in Jordan and I don't know where they are.''

OUR UNITS AT BORDER ON ALERT
Kurdish-Arab conflict which erupted in Al Qamishli, Syria spread to Afrin and Al Hasakah. Incidents which started after a football match in Al Qamishli, a town near southeastern Nusaybin town, also continued yesterday. Syrian army which severed its attitude towards Kurdish separatists, sent war planes, helicopters and armored units. Kurdish sources announced death toll as 70 while Syria put the death toll as 14. Meanwhile, Syria closed Nusaybin Border Gate. Turkish units at the border are also on the alert in order to prevent people from escaping from Syria to Turkey.

ATHENS WANTS TERRORIST LIST
Greek Foreign Ministry asked Turkey to send the list of terrorist organizations active in Turkey through its Embassy in Ankara. The Directorate General of Security welcomed this demand and launched initiatives to send the list to Greece. A high-level security official said, ''there are organizations which act against Turkey in Greece. We hope activities of the organizations will be banned in Greece after this step.'' It is known that members of the terrorist organizations PKK and DHKP-C are getting armed training in Greece.

IMPRISONMENT FOR TEACHERS WHO HIT CHILDREN
European Union (EU) adjustment also came onto agenda of schools. Third Basic Criminal Court decided to imprison Seyfullah Kirtay, a deputy headmaster in Kartal Trade High School, on charges of hitting one of his students. Kirtay was sentenced to eight months in prison. Judge Servet Kartal announced the verdict as, ''in which age are we living? Nobody can hit the children of another.''

HISTORIC STANCE OF OZKOK
Chief of General Staff Hilmi Ozkok said, ''as the army commander, I am the one who is responsible for the investigation launched about society groups if there is a fault.'' New developments occurred related with the incident which made a great part of Turkey uneasy as the Istanbul Second Armored Brigade demanded that investigation should be launched about society groups or some other groups who were supporting the European Union (EU) and the United States more than Turkey's national interests. General Ozkok said that he had undertaken the responsibility for the incident as the Chief of General Staff. Ozkok told reporters that initiatives related with the investigation continued and said, ''the incident is not central, it is local.'' Ozkok noted that they would announce the result of their initiatives. Asked if the Second Armored Brigade or the Army Corps was responsible, Ozkok said, ''if there is a fault, I am the one who is responsible for it as I am the commander of the army.''

DEADLOCK IN CYPRUS AGAIN
The proposal that Turkey and Greece should join the conference to take place as a part of Cyprus negotiations in the level of prime ministers in case sides can't reach a solution in Cyprus was not accepted. Greece's inexperienced prime minister wanted the meeting in Switzerland to start in the level of undersecretaries and then be completed in the level of foreign ministers because he is afraid of being unsuccessful. Denktas, who is not pleased with the stance of the Greek Cypriots in ongoing Cyprus talks, decided not to go to Switzerland in order not to face a fait accompli.

''TSK DOESN'T HAVE SUCH A DUTY''
Touching on the demand of the Land Forces Command that ''intelligence should be collected about some people and groups'', Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the constitution listed duties of institutions and added that the army could not do such a thing.

TESEV CHAIRMAN BEING FOLLOWED FOR TEN YEARS
Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) Chairman Can Paker said that the government should launch an investigation about those who was responsible for the investigation launched about some people and groups. Paker noted that democracy and the opposition would become stronger if the Republican People's Party (CHP) dealt with that issue. Paker is TESEV Chairman, a member of the Discipline Committee of the Turkish Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TUSIAD), and a voluntary ambassador charged by the Foreign Ministry to improve relations with European Union (EU) member countries. Paker said, ''I know that I am being followed for ten years. This is not a situation of which we should be afraid, but it is a miserable situation. Will this view protect Turkey from enemies?'' Paker noted, ''what does it mean if the Land Forces Command and even the General Staff are against the EU? If 75 percent of this people want EU membership, Turkey will continue to walk on this road.'' Paker said, ''the government should launch an investigation about those who are responsible. What will the government and the General Staff do? It seems that the EU will give Turkey a negotiation date in December. The decision is linked with Cyprus. The government should show more political determination.''

Gaziantep Zeugma Platform, comprised of 23 non-governmental organizations, will be in an effort to protect all cultural values, mainly Zeugma, in the city.
Gaziantep Zeugma Platform said, ''we will protect Zeugma and our museum. Our efforts will not only be limited with Zeugma. We will cooperate with all the institutions and organizations.''

99,000 PEOPLE DIED IN 103 QUAKES WHICH HAPPENED THROUGHOUT A CENTURY
A total of 99,389 people died in 102 quakes which happened in 103 years.
Public Works and Settlement Undersecretary Mahmut Kucuk, who addressed Quake Master Plan Evaluation Meeting, said a devastating quake occurred in our country once in eight months.
He said 612.542 buildings were demolished in quakes which occurred since the year 1900.
Kucuk said studies should be carried out to prevent misleading information noting that, ''some circles make wrong statements about quake. Because of this, concerns in the society about a quake deepen everyday.''

FOREIGN MINISTER GUL: WE WANT TRANQUILITY IN OUR NEIGHBOR
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul said incidents in Syria were concerning stating that, ''we want stability and tranquility in our neighbor.''
Gul said the incidents which occurred in al Qamishli were calmed down, and expressed sorrow over killing of many people. He also said it was not right to reflect those tensions like war.
