ANKARA - After the U.S. Department of Defense chose Turkish companies in six tenders worth of 200 million U.S. dollars, an agreement has been reached between Turkey and Iraq over sale of several goods including tanks and railway cars worth of 110 million U.S. dollars.
Sources told the A.A correspondent on Friday that the delegation headed by Ron Neumann, the American foreign relations director of Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Iraq, had completed its meetings with Turkish officials.
At the end of two-day technical talks at the Foreign Trade Undersecretariat, an agreement was reached with Iraqi ministries of transportation and oil about sale of several goods including tanks and railway cars worth of 110 million U.S. dollars.
During the talks, opening of a second border gate between Turkey and Iraq was taken up. Further technical studies will be carried out to determine the place of the second border gate.
Several committees were set up during the talks to deal with problems in commercial relations between Turkey and Iraq.
The delegation including also Iraqi officials, met with Turkish Petroleum Corp. (TPAO) and Turkish Pipeline Transportation Corp (BOTAS) officials. Transportation of Iraqi natural gas to Europe was high on agenda of these meetings.
Releasing a statement on March 9, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that it had chosen Turkish companies in six tenders worth of 200 million U.S. dollars for sale of oil products to Iraq. These companies are Turcas Petrol A.S., Opet Petrolculuk A.S., Petrol Ofisi A.S., Delta Petrol Urunleri Ticaret A.S., Ipragaz A.S., and Tefirom Construction and Energy Co. Ltd.
