MARMARIS - Turkish and Greek businessmen have met at a panel discussion on ''Improvement of Economic Relations Between Turkey and Greek'' in Marmaris town of western province of Mugla.
Making the opening remarks of the panel discussion which was held with the participation of a number of businessmen from Marmaris and Rhodes, Cemalettin Ozdemir, the sub-governor of Marmaris, said, ''although border trade is widespread in many places, weak relations between Marmaris and Rhodes are quite saddening.''
Meanwhile, Marmaris Chamber of Commerce Mustafa Balci said that the Sixth Economic Summit to be held in Marmaris on June 26 and in Rhodes on June 27 would further consolidate commercial and friendly relations.
Izmir Chamber of Commerce Executive Board Chairman Ekrem Demirtas said, ''while number of foreign tourists coming to Turkey increased by 3 percent in 2003, number of Greek tourists visiting Turkey rose by 43 percent. It means to say that we can host more than a million Greek tourists in Turkey. Also, our businessmen can co-operate with Greek businessmen in many sectors such as textiles, foodstuffs, manufacturing, sea transportation and construction of yachts.''
