FORMER DEP DEPUTIES BOYCOTT THEIR RETRIAL
Ankara State Security Court (DGM) has continued to hear re-trial of Leyla Zana, Hatip Dicle, Orhan Dogan and Selim Sadak, the former deputies of the Democracy Party (DEP) which was banned by the Constitutional Court. Zana, Dicle, Dogan and Sadak did not attend the hearing. They presented a petition to the court saying that they would not attend the following hearings to protest statements of Justice Minister Cemil Cicek and the government's policies. Meanwhile, the court delegation rejected their request for release from prison, and adjourned the hearing to April 2, 2004.

JCR REVISES ITS RATING OUTLOOK FROM STABLE TO POSITIVE
JCR has affirmed the ratings simultaneously revised their outlook on the bonds and newly assigned a rating to Domestic Currency Long-term Senior Debts. JCR issued a statement and said Turkey's B+ (single B plus) could be upgraded in case progress is recorded in structural reforms as a result of seventh review carried out with the IMF. JCR has decided to revise its rating outlook of Turkey's foreign currency long-term bonds from stable to positive. JCR will start considering a further upgrading of the rating if progress in the structural reforms, the result of the IMF's seventh review of the economic reform program and stable macroeconomic growth can be confirmed in the future.

BOMB GOES OF IN ANKARA COURT HOUSE
A bomb left under a bench on the fifth floor of the Ankara court house went off at about 17.00 local time yesterday. There were not any immediate reports of casualties in the explosion. The explosion caused minor damage to the building. People working in the court house rushed out of the building in panic.

GUN IN LODGE RECIDIVOUS
A gun on hands of terrorists who attacked on the Masonic Lodge in Yakacik, Istanbul was proved to have been used in murder of high-society's dentist Yasef Kahya. 37-year-old Yasef Kahya who was known as the dentist of high-society was found dead in his office in Sisli, Istanbul in August last year. His hands and feet were tied and he was shot in the head. Now, the gun used in this murder which caused uneasiness in the Jewish community in Turkey appeared in the Masonic Lodge in Yakacik. Police is now investigating whether Engin Vural and Nihat Dogruel who attacked on the Masonic Lodge had been involved in murder of the dentist. Meanwhile, it is supposed that killing of wholesaler Mois Konur who was shot in the head in Yakacik on October 9 was one of the links of this death chain.

''WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO GIVE''
Greek Cypriot administration claimed that the take-and-give process would end unsuccessfully although it had not begun yet under Cyprus negotiations. Making statement prior to his meeting with TRNC President Rauf Denktas, Greek Cypriot administration leader Tassos Papadopoulos said that they did not have anything to give in the take-and-give process, adding, ''we won't take anything. So why should we give?''

HE EARNS 3.8 BILLION LIRAS FROM TRADE
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who earlier said he could not make a living with the Prime Minister wage of 6.5 billion Turkish liras (TL) earns nearly 3.8 billion TL a month from trade. The Prime Minister has 12 percent share in each of three foodstuffs producer companies Emniyet Gida A.S., Ihsan Gida Pazarlama A.S. and Ihsan Gida Pazarlama Ltd.

ISTANBUL DGM TO START HEARING TRIAL OF 69 SUSPECTS ON MAY 31
Istanbul State Security Court (DGM) will start hearing trial of 69 suspects of last year's suicide attacks in Istanbul on May 31, 2004. The trial is expected to continue till June 4, 2004 due to high number of suspects. A total of 58 people were killed in the quadruple suicide attacks on Neve Shalom and Beth Israel synagogues, British Consulate General and HSBC Bank headquarters in Istanbul in November of 2003. Among those killed in the attacks was British Consul General Roger Short. Suicide bombers Mesut Cabuk, Gokhan Elaltuntas, Feridun Ugurlu and Ilyas Kuncak also died in the attacks.

ABDUCTED TURKISH WORKERS RESCUED
Turkish workers, who were abducted by Taliban force in Afghanistan nearly 100 days ago, were rescued. Afghan officials handed over Turkish workers to the Turkish Embassy in Kabul. The workers said that they had eaten only potatoes during their captivity. They added that Taliban maltreated them. Officials said that the workers were in good health.

GIVE-AND-TAKE PROCESS ENDS BEFORE IT STARTS
Tension has escalated at yesterday's meeting between Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot delegations when Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos insisted on return of all immigrants to their homes. Following the meeting, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro de Soto decided to hold separate talks with President Rauf Denktas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Papadopoulos to remove the disagreements.

PRESIDENT SEZER PLANS TO HOLD A SUMMIT MEETING ON CYPRUS
President Ahmet Necdet Sezer has said that a solution to be reached in Cyprus should protect interests of both Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Meanwhile, sources said that President Sezer was planning to hold a summit at the Cankaya Presidential Office before the quadrilateral meeting to be held in Switzerland with the participation of Turkey and Greece.

EXPLOSION IN COURT HOUSE
An explosion has occurred in Ankara court house. There were not casualties in the explosion which occurred on the fifth floor of the court house where commercial courts take place. The explosion caused minor damage to the building. Police said that a resonant bomb might have caused the explosion.

SCIENCE VOLUNTEERS
Nearly 700 businessmen who are members of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Karakoy Rotary Club, have initiated a great social responsibility project. They set up a platform to support scientific activities. The businessmen will meet scientific requirements of young people in an effort to contribute to their education.

GUL: ''PRIME MINISTERS CAN ATTEND THE FOURTH ROUND''
Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Gul has said that the guarantor states would participate in the talks if the sides in Cyprus failed to reach an agreement. Recalling that the quadrilateral talks would start in Switzerland on March 24, Gul said that the guarantor states should be represented at the meeting on the highest level.

GUN IN LODGE ALSO USED IN MURDER OF JEWISH DENTIST
The gun which was used in suicide bombing attack on the Masonic lodge in Istanbul appeared to have been used in criminal activity in the past. It was proven that bullets which killed Jewish dentist Yasef Kahya in Sisli, Istanbul six months ago were shot with the same gun. Police tries to prove the connection between the assailants and the ''dirty gun''. Meanwhile, Istanbul Security Chief Celalettin Cerrah announced that nine people who were relatives and friends of the two terrorists were detained under investigation into the suicide bombing. Cerrah said that terrorists had wanted to go to Afghanistan in the past.

TAKE-AND-GIVE IN CYPRUS TOUGHENS, UNITED NATIONS SEEKS WAY-OUT
While the fourteenth session of he Cyprus talks was held yesterday, the gap between the sides has started to press the United Nations hard. The take-and-give process which was expected to start yesterday couldn't start because demands of the Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides are not compatible with each other. U.N. Secretary General's Special Envoy to Cyprus Alvaro De Soto will start holding separate intense meetings with the sides in addition to direct negotiations. Leaders won't meet every day but they meet if it is necessary. Meanwhile, Greek Cypriot administration's foreign minister George Yakovu defended that the Turkish side perverted Annan's plan and said, ''take-and-give process is now very difficult.'' Giving information on yesterday's session, TRNC President Rauf Denktas said that De Soto asked the sides to give their demands of change article by article. Recalling that they had wanted it in the beginning of the negotiation process, Denktas said that the U.N. envoy would try to determine whether the take-and-give process could start.
