LEFKOSA - The fourteenth session of the negotiation process aiming to find a fair and lasting solution to the Cyprus issue ended.
The meeting between Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot sides headed by President Rauf Denktas of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Tassos Papadopoulos lasted for two hours and 15 minutes.
President Denktas will hold a press conference at 14.00 local time.
GIVE-AND-TAKE PROCESS DOES NOT START IN CYPRUS NEGOTIATIONS
As the preparations were not completed regarding the ''give-and-take'' process which was expected to start in Cyprus negotiations on Friday, the process didn't start.
The two sides in Cyprus exchanged views about certain issues in their 14th meeting today, but the process didn't start as the preparations could not be completed.
The constitution draft of the founding states could not be given to U.N. too as it could not be finished.
The negotiations will continue on Monday. TRNC President Rauf Denktas will hold a news conference about today's meeting at 2.00 p.m.
PRESIDENTIAL CHIEF ADVISER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS ATACANLI: ''WE HOPE FINAL RESULT IN CYPRUS WILL PROTECT INTEREST OF TURKEY AND TRNC''
Presidential Chief Adviser for Foreign Affairs Sermet Atacanli said on Friday that they hoped final result that would be reached in Cyprus would protect interests of Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
Speaking at a news briefing at Cankaya Palace, Atacanli stressed the importance of Cyprus for Turkey.
Atacanli stressed that talks continued on Cyprus, and noted that an evaluation meeting could take place in Ankara prior to the talks that would take place in Switzerland.
Mentioning the temporary constitution signed in Iraq, Atacanli said Turkey had several concerns on the issue, and noted that this concern was conveyed to related people, mainly the authorities in the United States.
''We hope our concerns will be taken in to consideration,'' Atacanli added.
Atacanli expressed the sorrow President Ahmet Necdet Sezer felt over the terrorist attacks in Spain, and stressed the importance of growing international cooperation in fight against terrorism.
