BAGHDAD - Muhammad Bahr al-Ulum, the term president of Iraqi provisional governing council said on Thursday that the good relations between Turkey and Iraq stemming from the past should be strengthened.
Speaking to A.A correspondent, Al-Ulum said that improvement of the relations between Iraqi and Turkish people in all fields would be to the interest of both Iraqi and Turkish people and also of regional peoples.
Al-Ulum said that mutual visits between officials of the two countries would further strengthen the relations in commercial, economic and cultural fields.
Referring to the good relations between Turkey and Iraq throughout the history, Al Ulum said that the two countries had always lived in mutual respect and friendship.
Regarding the recent terrorist incidents that took place in Karbala and Baghdad, Al-Ulum said that those radical incidents targeted the unity of all Iraqis. He stated that the terrorist activities that took place in Istanbul were similar to those that took place in Iraq and they had the same terrorist goals.
Referring to signing of the interim constitution in Iraq, Al-Ulum said that it protected the dignity of Iraqi people and it constituted a sound basis for rebuilding of Iraq. Noting that it had an historic importance, Al Ulum added that yet the interim constitution didn't make everybody's hopes come true.
