ANKARA - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent on Thursday a condolence message to Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar after terrorist attacks hit Spanish capital Madrid earlier in the day.
A statement of the Prime Ministry Press Center said that Erdogan expressed deep sorrow over death and injury of many innocent people in the bomb attacks which were staged on three separate train stations in Spanish capital Madrid in the morning of Thursday.
The statement quoted Erdogan as saying that Turkey and Turkish people, who had suffered big losses in the fight against terrorism for years, shared the sorrow of Spanish people.
Condemning the terrorist attacks in Madrid on his and Turkish nation`s behalf, Erdogan expressed belief that all countries should be in close cooperation in countering terrorism.
In his message, Erdogan extended condolences to friendly Spanish people and those who lost their relatives in the attacks and wished quick recovery for the injured.
Powerful explosions rocked three Madrid train stations earlier on Thursday just three days before Spain`s general elections, killing more than 170 rush-hour commuters and wounding more than 500 in what officials called Spain`s worst terrorist attack ever.
