ISTANBUL - Italian Ambassador to Turkey Carlo Marsili visited on Thursday Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler.
Following the meeting, Guler told reporters that Marsili paid a courtesy visit since he had recently taken over his mission.
Wishing Marsili luck in his mission, Guler expressed belief that Turkish-Italian relations would further improve during Marsili's mandate in Turkey.
Marsili said that the year 2004 was a year when important decisions about Turkey's European Union (EU) membership would be taken.
Italian government was supporting Turkey in Turkey's EU membership process, Marsili noted.
Marsili said that he met his Turkish wife Selva when he served in Ankara between 1979 and 1981, and they married after his mandate in Ankara ended.
